Z-OptimiZr for SharePoint Databases
The goal of Z-OptimiZr for SharePoint Databases (Z-OptimiZr SP DB) is to reduce the size of the files already stored inside your SharePoint server libraries.
Z-OptimiZr for SharePoint includes the following file volume optimization features:
- Microsoft XML File Native Optimization
for MS Office DOCX, PPTX and XLSX files
- Microsoft Office File Native Optimization
for MS Office DOC and PPT files
- Picture File Native Optimization
for JPG files
Z-OptimiZr for SharePoint Databases installs and runs on your SharePoint servers.
Z-OptimiZr SP DB is provided under the form of an executable program that can be launched from a command line or a batch file. Functioning parameters are provided through an ini parameter file.
The list of libraries to process can be provided using command line parameters or, more conveniently for large numbers of specific libraries, in the Libraries.ini parameter file.
The optimization of the files contained into a given library is fully transparent for the SharePoint users who get benefits of the files being smaller when downloading or editing the files.
The metadata related to the files are fully preserved as well as the versions of the files if any (The different versions of the files, if any, are also optimized).
The volume savings obtained on your SharePoint server storage devices propagate to your network when the files having been processed by Z-OptimiZr SP DB are downloaded by the SharePoint users. Smaller files not only require less storage and network resources, but are also processed faster by your SharePoint servers and downloaded faster by your SharePoint users.
Files most probably represent a very significant part (frequently more than 90%) of the data volume handled within your SharePoint infrastructure.
Reducing significantly the global amount of storage, CPU, IOs, and network bandwidth consumed by the file traffic and processing accelerates not only all of the SharePoint tasks related to the files, but more globally your entire SharePoint organization.
Z-OptimiZr for SharePoint Databases provides native XML (DOCX, PPTX, XLSX files) optimization, Native MS Office DOC and PPT optimization, and native JPG picture file optimization, enabling to drastically reduce the size of the files stored into your SharePoint server SQL databases.
The optimization of the file uploaded is performed on demand in batch mode. Once the optimization jobe is finished, Z-OptimiZr for SharePoint Databases stops running automatically.
- XML File (DOCX, PPTX, XLSX) Native Optimization
- MS Office DOC and PPT Native Optimization
- JPG Picture File Native Optimization

The Z-OptimiZr for SharePoint Databases XML file volume reduction feature can be applied to the DOCX, PPTX and XLSX files (the resulting files remain as native DOCX, PPTX and XLSX files, but made significantly smaller by Z-OptimiZr for SharePoint). If needed, the XML optimization feature can be applied on some given file types only and on a per SharePoint site collection or on a per SharePoint site or library basis.
Z-OptimiZr for SharePoint Databases is also able to optimize Open Office ODT, ODP and ODS XML files.
Since the optimized XML files remain as XML files (for instance an optimized PPTX file remains as a PPTX file), the Z-OptimiZr for SharePoint XML optimization feature achieves the maximum possible level of transparency in terms of volume reduction for Microsoft Office XML files.
There is simply no need for any particular software or add-ons other than Microsoft Office to open the optimized XML files.
The average volume reduction obtained on a set of thousands of Microsoft Office XML files of all types randomly downloaded from various web sites was over 50%.
Like for the XML optimization features, the MS Office DOC and PPT optimization feature can be activated on a per SharePoint site collection or on a per SharePoint site or library basis and, and, if needed, for some file types only.
With this feature, the DOC and PPT files remain DOC and PPT files after they have been optimized by Z-OptimiZr SP DB.
The average volume reduction obtained on a set of thousands of Microsoft Office DOC and PPT files of all types randomly downloaded from various web sites was over 50%.
The Z-OptimiZr for SharePoint image file volume reduction features applies natively to the JPG files (the resulting files remain image files, but made significantly smaller by Z-OptimiZr for SharePoint). If needed, the image optimization feature can be applied on a per SharePoint site collection or on a per SharePoint site or library basis.
Since the optimized picture files remain as picture files (an optimized JPG file remains as a JPG file) the Z-OptimiZr for SharePoint picture optimization feature achieves the maximum possible level of transparency in terms of volume reduction for picture files.
There is simply no need for any particular software or add-ons other than the usual picture file viewers to open them.
The average volume reduction obtained on a set of thousands of image files of all types collected from various sources was on average 50 to 60% (when preserving the original image dimensions) and up to more than 80% when defining a maximum image size of 1,600 x 1,200 pixels.
Z-OptimiZr for SharePoint databases is managed through 2 different kinds of parameters:
The Z-OptimiZr SP DB functioning parameters
- Which optimization features (among (XML native optimization, Image Native optimization and MS Office 2003 Native optimization) must be made active.
- How the Z-OptimiZr SP optimization features (XML native optimization, Image Native optimization and MS Office 2003 Native optimization) must process the files.
- Which kind of log files have to be produced and were must the log files be located.
- Other "system" parameters, like the activation of the test mode (in test mode, Z-OptimiZr SP DB will do everything except the replacement of the files by their optimized versions. Thus you can get the detailed log files, based on the real optimization numbers, for any SharePoint library, while remaining it fully untouched).
These parameters are provided in an ini parameter file located in the Z-OptimiZr SP SB program folder.
The list of libraries to process
The list of libraries to process can be provided on theZ-OptimiZr exe program command line parameter or, more conveniently for large numbers of specific libraries, in a Libraries.ini parameter file located in the Z-OptimiZr program folder.
Z-OptimiZr SP DB can be configured to produce detailed log files enabling to measure the delivered savings on a per file basis.
Some log files are produced in CSV format and can be directly opened using Microsoft Excel.
So you can easily check the delivered savings on a per file basis, sort the files by file types, or best optimized files or largest files etc…
Cumulated numbers are also provided through a monitor measuring and displaying the cumulated savings in real time.
